Dr. Juan Castillo is an endocrinologist for UMC after moving to the U.S. from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he obtained his medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.
He completed his internal medicine residency at South Brooklyn Health in New York, as well as an Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship.
“It’s a pleasure to be of service for this community…Since we started working here, we’ve seen the difference. They tell us every time that they feel much better, more energy, you know, and knowing that you by [getting] them where you want them to be.”
“You know, with their numbers [regarding their blood sugar] you know that the grim fate that they had…is somewhat averted,” Rodriquez said. “One less patient that is condemned to have a horrible, horrible fate—just one and that is a member of a family that’s a father, an uncle, a mother, maybe a son, because there are young people with diabetes.”
Being able to make a positive change in one person’s life, and knowing it will also help their family, makes it all worthwhile to Rodriquez.
“So when you work with one, even if it’s one, that has a huge impact on someone else…in the patient and their loved ones. And that means a lot,” Rodriquez said.
