For most families, the arrival of a baby happens in a hospital delivery room. For Danielle Fradin and her husband, their daughter Yara’s birth took an unexpected turn before they could even reach the hospital entrance.
As Fradin’s contractions became stronger, the El Paso couple quickly made their way to University Medical Center of El Paso. But during the drive, it became clear that Yara was ready to arrive sooner than expected.
“We left the house at about 8:30 that morning and it was the longest car ride of my life,” Fradin shared. “I think we hit every single red light the entire way.”
When they arrived at UMC’s parking garage, labor progressed rapidly. Fradin and her husband knew they needed help immediately.
A Quick Response
Two UMC nurses, Angela Tercero and Jazmin Chavez, happened to be nearby when they noticed the situation unfolding. Without hesitation, they stepped in to assist and help create a safe and comfortable environment for the delivery.
Tercero gathered supplies from her vehicle, including a pillow and other items that could help support Fradin while the team waited for additional assistance.
Within minutes, baby Yara was born safely in the parking garage with the support of the two nurses who acted quickly when they were needed most.
A Reunion to Remember
After the delivery, Chavez returned to check on Fradin and her newborn daughter.
“That same day, I came back to the hospital to make sure that they were okay,” Chavez said. “As soon as they told me mom and baby were okay, I left happy.”
Fradin later wondered if she would ever have the opportunity to thank the nurses who helped welcome her daughter into the world.
“When I was in Labor and Delivery is when I started wondering, ‘How am I ever going to find these women?’” she said.
UMC helped bring the family and nurses back together for a special reunion, giving Fradin the chance to personally thank Tercero and Chavez for the care and compassion they showed during such an unforgettable moment.

Both Fradin and baby Yara are doing well, and their story is a reminder of the dedication UMC nurses bring to every patient interaction—whether inside the hospital or wherever care is needed.
