University Medical Center of El Paso has been recognized as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), marking a major advancement in neurological care for the Borderland region. The designation, awarded on April 3, represents the highest level of epilepsy care available and expands access to advanced treatment for patients in the community.
Level 4 Epilepsy Centers provide comprehensive services for patients with complex seizure disorders, including advanced diagnostic testing and specialized treatment options. With this recognition, UMC now offers patients access to highly specialized epilepsy care without having to leave the region.
Expanding Care Close to Home
Before UMC received this designation, patients in El Paso often needed to travel to other cities — including Albuquerque, Phoenix, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio — to access this level of epilepsy care.
“With this designation, our epilepsy patients can receive the most advanced medical and surgical care close to home — eliminating the need to travel elsewhere,” said Sushma Reddy Yerram, M.D., neurologist with Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso and assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the Foster School of Medicine.
A Regional Milestone
The Level 4 designation represents a first for the El Paso region and reflects the collaboration between UMC and clinical partners, including Texas Tech Health El Paso.
