Meet Our DAISY Award Winners: Honoring Nurses Who Make a Difference

UMC Staff

University Medical Center of El Paso proudly recognizes its Fourth Quarter 2025 DAISY Award recipients, honoring nurses whose care has made a meaningful difference in the lives of patients.

This quarter’s honorees are:

  • Areli Mendoza, Charge Nurse, East Medical Surgical Unit
  • Diana Luna, RN II, East Medical Surgical Unit
  • Daniel Shotwell, RN II, Emergency Department

The DAISY Award celebrates nurses who demonstrate extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence. Recipients are nominated by patients who have received care at University Medical Center of El Paso.

The award is administered by the DAISY Foundation, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from an autoimmune disease. DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

University Medical Center of El Paso is proud to honor these nurses for their commitment to patient-centered care and grateful for the positive impact they make every day.
