The University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) and the Texas Tech Division of Gastroenterology made a powerful impression at the 2024 American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) annual convention, held this October in Philadelphia. With more than 22 contributions, including poster sessions, oral presentations, and hands-on faculty workshops, the team showcased the depth and excellence of their clinical and academic work to a national audience.

Among the standout moments was gastroenterology fellow Dr. Jesús Guzmán’s award-winning abstract in the GI bleed category for trainees. He also gave an oral presentation on gastrointestinal bleeding in patients undergoing dual antiplatelet therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention, highlighting timely research with real-world clinical impact. In another key moment, Dr. Marc Zuckerman led hands-on training in single-balloon enteroscopy, a specialty procedure in which UMC serves as a regional referral center.

With over 5,000 gastroenterologists in attendance, the ACG convention served as a vital platform to present the latest updates, research, and clinical guidelines in the field. The team from UMC El Paso and Texas Tech not only shared their expertise but also underscored their leadership in advancing gastroenterology care and education, bringing well-deserved national recognition to El Paso’s medical community.
