The President & CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District, R. Jacob Cintron, has announced Maria Zampini as UMC’s newest Chief Executive Officer. Zampini most recently served as UMC’s Chief Operations Officer since 2013 and has been a key leader for UMC for over 30 years.

As COO, Zampini has ensured the hospital has proper operational, administrative, and reporting procedures in place. She has been responsible for all facility renovations and bond construction projects and has successfully completed over $500 million in expansion projects on time and below budget, as well as opened several large outpatient healthcare centers.

Zampini holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at El Paso. She is a native El Pasoan and proud alum of Coronado High School.

“Maria is a highly effective healthcare leader. Her education, experience, commitment to our mission, strategic insight, and operational knowledge makes her well positioned to lead UMC into its next  phase of growth,” said Cintron. “As the Hospital District continues to grow in scale, complexity, and  impact, it is important for our leadership structure to evolve and support the Hospital District’s  future,”

As part of this organizational restructure, Zampini will report to Mr. Cintron, who will remain in his role as President & CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District. This stays consistent with the Hospital  District’s broader organizational model, similar to El Paso Children’s Hospital and El Paso Health, which each have their own CEO as part of the Hospital District.

“Leading UMC is not just a career milestone, it is a deeply personal commitment. During my many years  as COO, I have learned what makes UMC strong and I am honored to build on that foundation, serve  the community that shaped me, and ensure our patients are treated with the highest level of care and compassion,” said Maria Zampini, UMC Chief Executive Officer.

UMC remains committed to its mission to Heal, to Serve, and to Educate. We are excited for the continued growth that has come as a result of our community’s trust in our care.
