University Medical Center (UMC) of El Paso continues to make strides in education, leadership, and community engagement, showcasing programs that inspire, educate, and uplift. Here are some of the latest initiatives making a difference in El Paso.

Advancing Skills in Endoscopy

UMC’s Digestive Health Center recently hosted its third annual Endoscopy Workshop, welcoming over 60 healthcare professionals, including nurses, techs, and gastroenterology fellows. Attendees participated in hands-on demonstrations led by experts such as Dr. Sherif Elhanafi and RN Jackie Ramirez, and gained insights into cutting-edge techniques, including capsule endoscopy and device-assisted enteroscopy, from Dr. Marc Zuckerman, UMC’s Chief of Gastroenterology.

UMC’s 4th Annual Nursing Leadership Summit

With the theme “Courage to Lead,” this year’s summit brought together nurse leaders for a day of inspiration and professional growth. Highlights included guest speakers Jacqueline Medland, PhD, and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, who shared empowering messages about leading with purpose.

Preparing Caregivers for an Aging Population

In partnership with the University of Texas at El Paso, UMC introduced age-friendly geriatric training at its East and West clinics. The program equips future healthcare providers with the skills and knowledge to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to older adults.

The Healing Power of Music

UMC welcomed a special performance by the El Paso Opera, bringing patients, staff, and visitors together through the magic of music. Vocalists Holly Mesarch and Isabella Ramirez, accompanied by pianist Flor De La Garza, delivered selections from Into the Woods and Lakmé, highlighting how the arts can uplift and heal the spirit.

Promoting Breast Health Awareness

In line with its mission to empower women’s health, UMC’s Mammography team participated in the Empower Health Expo, emphasizing the importance of early detection. Women over 40 were encouraged to schedule regular screenings, reinforcing the life-saving impact of timely mammograms.
