Artificial Intelligence continues to revolutionize the healthcare industry, offering enhanced diagnostic precision, more effective treatments, and faster recovery times. University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) remains committed to adopting the most advanced and impactful medical technologies available today.
This year, UMC’s Digestive Health Center reaffirms its position as the first and only hospital in the region to implement GI Genius, a groundbreaking endoscopy module powered by artificial intelligence.
What Is GI Genius?
Developed by Medtronic, GI Genius is the first FDA-cleared AI-powered system designed to assist physicians in colorectal cancer screening. Using deep learning, GI Genius enhances real-time colonoscopy procedures by analyzing video feeds and highlighting potential polyps, lesions that may become cancerous if left undetected.
During a colonoscopy, the system overlays green boxes on areas of concern, alerting endoscopists to the presence of polyps or adenomas that may otherwise be missed by the human eye. This real-time detection improves the rate of early identification, increasing the chance of successful treatment and prevention of colorectal cancer.
By embracing technological innovations, UMC ensures that patients receive world-class care right here, in El Paso.
