Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) involves the artificial control and monitoring of the heartbeat using small, battery-powered devices implanted in the body and connected to the heart. The two most common CRM devices are pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). Pacemakers deliver continuous, low-energy electrical impulses to help maintain a regular heartbeat, while ICDs detect irregular rhythms or pauses and deliver shocks to reset the heart to a normal rhythm.
