A year after the groundbreaking, the Fox Cancer Center is no longer just a project on paper. Construction at University Medical Center of El Paso is moving upward, with the structure now beginning to take shape.

Since the project broke ground in September 2025, crews have installed hundreds of deep foundations and poured thousands of cubic yards of concrete. The building has now started going vertical, with additional floors expected to take shape over the months ahead.

The progress marks an important milestone for a project that will expand cancer care in El Paso and the Borderplex. Each stage of construction brings the Fox Cancer Center closer to becoming a new part of the UMC campus.

One year into construction, the building is beginning to look like what it was designed to become. And there is still more to come as construction continues floor by floor.
