University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) continues to expand access to specialized care with the addition of Dr. Jesus Gomez, a board-certified medical hematologist and oncologist.
Dr. Gomez brings expertise in both hematology and oncology, allowing UMC to strengthen services for patients facing a wide range of conditions, from common blood disorders to complex cancers.
“I was very thrilled when the opportunity came up to join the UMC team,” said Dr. Gomez. “I am looking forward to leaving somewhat of a legacy to treat our community.”
A Return Home To Serve The Community
As a native El Pasoan, Dr. Gomez’s return to the region is both personal and professional. His connection to the community reflects a shared commitment to improving access to high-quality care for local patients and families.
With the addition of Dr. Gomez, UMC is establishing an in-house hematology and oncology service line—an important step forward for patients who previously needed to seek care outside the system.
This expansion allows UMC to provide more comprehensive, coordinated care locally, helping reduce the burden of travel and keeping patients closer to their support systems during treatment.
Dr. Gomez’s practice includes:
- Hematology, focusing on blood-related conditions such as anemia, as well as complex diseases like acute leukemias and lymphomas
- Medical oncology, treating solid tumors including lung, breast, and prostate cancers
His dual expertise supports a more integrated approach to diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care.
The addition of Dr. Gomez and the development of this specialty service line represent a significant milestone in UMC’s ongoing mission to deliver accessible, advanced care to the El Paso community.
By continuing to grow its network of specialists, UMC is ensuring that patients can receive the care they need close to home.
