Looking for a way to give back to your community, gain meaningful experience, and connect with others? The University Medical Center (UMC) of El Paso Volunteer Program offers opportunities for adults, pastoral volunteers, and teens to make a real impact on patients, families, and the community.

Volunteering at UMC is more than donating your time, it’s about enhancing patient experiences and supporting healthcare in El Paso. Volunteers:

  • Contribute to meaningful community programs and events

Volunteer Opportunities

UMC offers a wide variety of roles across our hospital and outpatient clinics, including:

  • Patient Escort, Information Desk, Lobby Concierge
  • Clerical/Administrative Support
  • Gift Shop and Magazine Cart Assistance
  • Occupational & Physical Therapy Assistance
  • Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care Programs
  • Special events, hospital projects, and patient visits

No matter your skills or interests, there’s a role where you can make a difference.

How to Get Started

Adult Volunteers

  • Age 18+
  • Updated resume
  • Two reference forms (non-family)
  • Commitment: 100 hours over 3 months
  • Complete application, interview, orientation, and pre-screening (TB test, lab work, background check, vaccination verification)

Pastoral Volunteers

  • Age 18+
  • Two reference forms (non-family)
  • Letter of recommendation from parish/congregation leader
  • Catholic ministers require letters from the Diocese and a priest
  • Proof of ordination or hospital ministry certificate
  • Commitment: 100 hours over 3 months

Junior Volunteers (Ages 14–17)

  • Commitment: Minimum 60 hours; summer volunteers serve full summer, year-round volunteers serve monthly and during breaks
  • Letter of good academic standing from high school guidance counselor (minimum GPA 3.0)
  • Two reference forms (non-family)
  • Parental consent form
