UMC Staff

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) has once again been recognized for excellence in surgical care by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP). Based on 2023 data, UMC received meritorious recognition for outstanding outcomes in both inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures.

UMC was honored in two major ACS NSQIP categories:

  • “All Cases”
  • “High Risk” cases

This recognition places UMC among an elite group of hospitals nationwide:

  • One of only 77 hospitals in the U.S. to earn the 2023 distinction
  • One of only 32 hospitals recognized for two or more consecutive years
  • One of only 43 hospitals recognized in both performance categories

A Legacy of Excellence

“For a fourth year in a row, we are proud to be recognized for our commitment to our patients,” said Jacob Cintron, President & CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District. “This achievement demonstrates the superior care our staff provides on a consistent basis.”

The ACS NSQIP program aims to:

  • Reduce surgical complications and mortality
  • Promote the use of scientific, evidence-based practices
  • Support continuous quality improvement in surgical care

UMC’s ongoing recognition highlights its dedication to delivering top-tier surgical care and reinforces its status as a trusted healthcare leader in the El Paso region.
