This fall, we proudly celebrate four outstanding UMC team members whose dedication, compassion, and service have strengthened our hospital and community. Please join us in thanking Hilda Villanueva, Eileen Demere, Dora Chambers, and Cristina Roybal as they begin their well-deserved retirements.
Hilda Villanueva
Hilda began her career in 1994 as a night-shift phlebotomist and later earned her medical laboratory technician degree. Known in the blood bank as “Trauma Mama,” she led with calm expertise, inspiring generations of lab techs.
She set the gold standard for what it means to be a medical laboratory technician, and her legacy of excellence and mentorship will continue to guide the team.
Eileen Demere
For 26 years, Eileen was a cornerstone of UMC’s Fiscal Department. Colleagues describe her as one of the most dependable and hardworking individuals they’ve worked with. Her expertise was essential in implementing and maintaining UMC’s workforce management and timesheet systems, ensuring accuracy and smooth operations hospital-wide.
Her commitment, attention to detail, and deep institutional knowledge will be greatly missed.
Dora Chambers
Dora’s UMC journey began in 2000 as a phlebotomist. After becoming a nurse in 2003, she returned in 2007 and went on to serve in Med-Surg, Pre-Assessment, Recovery, Surgery, Endoscopy, and Case Management. She guided patients in their homes as a care transition coach, played key roles during the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently contributed to quality management and the chest pain program. Dora credits a mentor for encouraging her to continually seek growth—advice that shaped her diverse and meaningful career.
Reflecting on her journey, she shared wise words passed on from a mentor:
“One of my role models advised me to go and create new experiences for growth and to continue to challenge myself as a professional by trying out more critical areas of nursing. I took her advice, which ultimately allowed me to experience various positions within the UMC umbrella.”
Cristina Roybal
Cristina joined UMC in 1994 in environmental services before moving to Family Planning in 1996, where she served 24 years as a senior representative health information specialist. In 2018, she became a patient care navigator at the women’s and teen centers, coordinating care with her signature positivity and dedication.
As she steps into retirement, Cristina looks forward to traveling and spending more time in her garden.
To Hilda, Eileen, Dora, and Cristina: thank you for your years of service, your heart, and the difference you’ve made at UMC El Paso. We wish you joy and fulfillment in retirement!
