Every January, hospitals across the country celebrate National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) Week, a time to recognize the highly skilled professionals who play a critical role in patient care before, during, and after surgery. At University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC), we are proud to spotlight the exceptional CRNA team serving patients at UMC Surgical Hospital East.
Who are CRNAs?
CRNAs are advanced practice registered nurses who specialize in anesthesia care. They safely administer anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures, while continuously monitoring patients and responding to their needs in real time. From the first pre-operative conversation to post-anesthesia recovery, CRNAs are with patients at some of their most vulnerable moments.
At UMC Surgical Hospital East, CRNAs are an essential part of the surgical care team, working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other clinicians to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes.
The anesthesia team at UMC Surgical Hospital East brings together advanced clinical training, years of experience, and a strong commitment to patient-centered care. Whether supporting outpatient procedures or more complex surgeries, the team’s focus is always the same: safety, comfort, and confidence for every patient.
Why National CRNA Week Matters
National CRNA Week is more than a celebration, it’s an opportunity to educate the community about a profession that often works behind the scenes. At UMC, we recognize that excellent surgical care depends on strong anesthesia services, and that CRNAs are central to that success.
As our surgical hospital continues to grow, CRNAs remain a key part of delivering high-quality, efficient care to the El Paso community.
This National CRNA Week, UMC El Paso extends its sincere gratitude to the CRNAs serving at Surgical Hospital East and across our health system. Their expertise, professionalism, and compassion make a lasting difference for patients and families every day.
