UMC Staff

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) continues to set the bar for world-class care, earning the highest recognition from the American Heart Association once again. This year, UMC has been awarded the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement awards for the Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll, Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, and Stroke Advanced Therapy Honor Roll.

These prestigious awards highlight UMC’s commitment to excellence in stroke care, driven by a robust managed-care approach emphasizing preventative measures and holistic care. The award criteria were based on comprehensive data collected from January 2021 to December 2023, showcasing UMC’s consistent delivery of top-tier patient care and timely treatments.

Strokes and heart disease remain leading causes of death in the United States, with someone experiencing a stroke or heart attack every 40 seconds. Research underscores that patient outcomes significantly improve when healthcare providers adhere strictly to treatment guidelines. UMC’s advanced Neurosciences Department, featuring the region’s only team of neuro-critical care board-certified neurologists and interventional neurologists, exemplifies this commitment through services such as the Mobile Stroke Unit.

“This award is a reflection of the dedicated professionals we have working in our neurosciences department at UMC,” said Carla Escobar, Admin. Dir. of UMC’s Neuro Program. “Strokes are far too common in our community, which is why we strive to always look for ways to improve and maintain high standards. The attention our team gives to patient care is unmatched.”

UMC’s holistic approach, expert team, and cutting-edge technology ensure that life-saving stroke care is accessible to the El Paso community and residents throughout West Texas and Southern New Mexico.
