Profile Dr. Daniela Pino’s Love Of Teaching Helps Patients Better Understand Care

UMC Staff

Dr. Daniela Pino was born and raised in Venezuela, and moved to the U.S. when she was 12 years old. But it was not long before she felt pressured to choose a direction for her future studies that would capitalize on her love of science.

“So after high school, you’re about 17, 16, high school, and you have to make the decision of what do you want to do with your life. I probably wasn’t thinking that I was going to be an OBGYN at that time, but I knew that I liked science at least…I was not thinking of engineering or anything like that…So that’s where I chose medicine.”

Pino earned her medical degree in Venezuela, before completing her residency in Midland-Odessa.

Pino said she cares for patients in a full range of gynecological service, such as testing, diagnostic, and obstetrician services through pregnancy. She enjoys teaching women about their bodies and how to maintain a healthy reproductive system.

“Basically, I put a lot of effort in teaching my patients in like, showing them charts, pictures, I feel like I should empower them to take ownership of their health…and the fact that the patients show me their most vulnerable selves… and they trust me come back to me for their next pregnancy, and then come back to me the next year, you know, that makes me feel like I’m doing something good for for my patients,” she said.

That satisfaction is what drives her and the staff to provide the best care possible for their patients.

“You know, the goal is our patients, right? [They are] the reason why we come to work every day—to help our patients,” she added.
