The El Paso County Hospital District has been awarded the prestigious Quality Texas Foundation (QTF) Regional Program Award for Performance Excellence. The announcement was made on February 16 by officials at the QTF headquarters.

“Winning this award is a tremendous success, not only for our Hospital District but for El Paso,” said Jacob Cintron, President & CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District.

“The award not only recognizes our operational quality by all of the Hospital District’s organizations, it recognizes our successful partnerships with organizations in our community, especially the City and County of El Paso,” he added. “We are honored to be the first healthcare organization in our region to be recognized with this award. We reached this level of quality because of the team we have, from our senior leaders, directors and all Associates. I know they all strive toward quality outcomes for all patients and families.”

The Hospital District, which includes the University Medical Center of El Paso, El Paso Children’s Hospital, and El Paso Health, began its journey toward this state-level recognition six years ago. Throughout the process, the district underwent multiple rigorous evaluations by the QTF as it continues to work towards the national-level Baldrige Award.

The Quality Texas Foundation Regional Program helps businesses, hospitals, schools, government agencies, and non-profits improve performance.

According to their website, “We educate, train, assess, provide feedback, and recognize organizations committed to a journey of excellence.”

The Quality Texas Foundation promotes the use of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and other methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. There are five achievement levels within the program:

  • Award Level (the highest, now achieved by the Hospital District)
  • Pioneer Level
  • Engagement Level
  • Commitment Level
  • Progress Level
