As National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is reminding the community that awareness shouldn’t end with the month of March. One of the most important messages this month brings is the power of early detection — because colorectal cancer is not only treatable, it’s beatable.
Colorectal cancer, also known as colon cancer, is one of the most common forms of cancer in the United States. However, when caught early through routine screenings, it can often be treated successfully. Preventive care, such as colonoscopies and other screening tests, can detect precancerous growths or signs of cancer before symptoms even appear.
UMC encourages everyone to talk with their doctor about when and how to get screened. Routine screenings can save lives, and the first step is simply having the conversation.
