Families in Far East El Paso now have faster access to healthcare with the opening of the first University Medical Center (UMC) urgent care clinic in the area. The new facility, UMC Urgent Care – Eastlake, expands UMC’s reach while offering patients convenient, non-emergency medical services close to home.
The clinic is designed to treat minor medical needs while still offering advanced services typically found in larger facilities.
What Services Are Available at UMC Urgent Care – Eastlake?
Assistant Administrator for Emergency Services at UMC, Michael Lowe, explained the distinction between urgent care and the emergency department.
“We are different from an emergency department in that we do treat more minor medical conditions,” Lowe told KFOX14.
Among the services offered are:
- Flu and COVID-19 testing
- Vaccinations
- Sports physicals
- Treatment for sprains, fractures, cuts, and other minor injuries
- In-house X-ray services, a feature that helps patients avoid unnecessary ER visits for common injuries
A Milestone in UMC’s Growth
The opening of the Eastlake urgent care also coincides with UMC’s 110th anniversary of serving the El Paso community. Lowe noted that UMC has expanded over the years from hospitals to urgent care and primary care facilities, always adapting to meet the region’s needs.
“UMC is going to continue to grow and we are going to continue expanding, especially as the needs of El Paso expand as well — so whatever specialties are needed, UMC is going to meet those demands,” Lowe told KFOX14.
As the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, UMC provides a full spectrum of care for patients across a 240-mile service area.
