University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is once again stepping up its efforts to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, reminding the community that early detection can change everything.
This year, UMC proudly shares the story of Mrs. El Paso 2024-2025, Jessica Washington, a breast cancer survivor and proud UMC patient. Her journey of strength and perseverance serves as a powerful reminder to women everywhere to take control of their health.
“Prevention is key, you’re going to want to check every month,” said Washington. “If I would have waited or if I would have not proceeded, things could be totally different.”
As part of its commitment with El Paso, UMC is continuing its Wellness Mammogram Initiative, making screenings more accessible than ever. Women aged 40 and older whose last mammogram was before November 1, 2024, are eligible to participate.
This initiative does not require a physician’s order, allowing women to schedule their screening at (915) 200-2662. It will be available at multiple UMC locations: Main Campus, West Clinic, East Clinic, and Northeast Clinic.
Screenings and readings are:
- Covered by most insurance plans
- Available for $50 for self-pay or uninsured patients
Dr. Alonso Andrade, Surgery Medical Director at UMC and Breast Care Center Director at Texas Tech Health El Paso, also continues to spread awareness about early detection. This October, Dr. Andrade has been partnering with local media outlets including @ElPasoYa, 92.3 The Fox & Fuego 94.7, to educate the public on the life-saving impact of regular screenings.
