University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is honored to have received national recognition from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), with three of its critical care units earning Beacon Awards for Excellence.
UMC’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was awarded a Silver Beacon, while the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Neuro-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) each received Bronze Beacon designations. UMC now accounts for three of the four Beacon Award–recognized units in the El Paso area.
Why Does This Matter?
The AACN Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes individual hospital units for measurable outcomes, evidence-based practices, leadership, and a healthy work environment. Unlike awards that evaluate entire facilities, the Beacon program focuses on unit-level performance and offers three levels of designation: gold, silver, and bronze.
The Beacon Awards highlight UMC’s continued focus on quality and standards in critical care services.
